- The stories are meant to be real stories about children who died the “right way.” When you read them, try to be critical. Can these children really have acted and spoken in such a way given the circumstances?
- As you read Janeway, especially the Prefaces, what rules were children taught to live by? What were they not allowed to do? What were they required to do?
- Read the ending of his “Preface to Parents”. Why did Janeway work SO HARD to convince his readers that the stories he is telling are real, non-fiction accounts of real children? How is it connected to the #1 rule for children “Thou shall not lie”?
